How to make Dal Pakwaan

Dal Pakwaan is a lovely dish for everyday meals.

for the Dal:
  • 1 cup channa dal, soaked in enough water to cover the dal, for an hour.
  • 1 medium onion, chopped finely.
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • 1 tsp garlic paste.
  • 4 green chillies, chopped finely.
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped finely
  • 1 tsp dhania powder.
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder.
  • 1 tsp jeera.
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp coriander, chopped.
  • 1 tbsp oil
For the pakwaan:
  • 1 cup maida or wheat flour, made into a tight dough and kept aside.
  • oil for deep frying.
for the Dal:
  1. Saute onions, green chillies, ginger and garlic till light brown.
  2. Add tomatoes, sauté till soft
  3. Add all the dry masalas and salt.
  4. Add the soaked dal, with the water.
  5. Pressure cook, lower the flame after the first whistle, cook on low flame for about 5-7 mins. The dal should be done but not mashed.
  6. Garnish with chopped coriander.
for the Pakwaan
  1. Make small balls from the dough.
  2. Roll out to very thin poories, prick holes with a fork to prevent them from puffing up.
  3. Fry in medium hot oil till crisp n light brown.
  4. Serve with the dal.
