An Amaltas Afternoon

Though most spas are dim and borderline dingy (no reflection on the standard of treatment or the services, though!) the first thing that strikes you when you enter Amaltas, the spa at Anya Hotel, is that it is bright and sunny! It could be the fact that the spa is the only L’OCCITANE approved center here and looking at L’OCCITANE products, it makes complete sense or it could be the fact that they wish to do things differently. The other aspect that is obvious is the novel use of space, for the property itself is rather compact. I appreciate minimalist interiors and how it makes the area look larger than it really is. The discreet display of products is a neat way to emphasize the involvement of a product range like L’OCCITANE and for someone like me, it’s a great way to make me want to buy, which I did! L’OCCITANE en Provence in India is not new but their spas are; a total of 6 around the country and now one in Gurgaon. It is a great way to experience international quality, natural products that are actually some of my favourite in terms of personal care.┬áL’OCCITANE offers beauty products and fragrances, developed following the principles of phytotherapy and aromatherapy, the textures and fragrances are inspired by a Mediterranean lifestyle and from a sensory perspective, each product is quite a delight. So my hopes for an experience at par with the brand’s promise made me certain of how great this afternoon was likely to be and it certainly was!

Bright and Sunny!

The treatments include L’OCCITANE scrubs and wraps which are the specialty but I was told that facials are the preferred service for most. I however opted for a regular deep tissue massage which is a great way to gauge the services of a spa. If you get the basics right, then the specials are bound to as delightful. After a relaxing cup of Ginger Lemon welcome tea which I loved – I felt rejuvenated by the dose of Vitamin C and a sharp, acrid burst of ginger, I was ready for an hour of sheer bliss. The body massage menu includes Deep Tissue, Aromachologie and Re-Energizing Sun Stones but I suggest you start with the Deep Tissue Intense Relief (INR 3250 for 60 mins). My therapist was a well versed young lady, eager to please and adept with her technique. Within the first 10 minutes, I was like putty in her hands and to be honest I don’t remember the rest. Time either stood still or flew and before I knew it my 60 minutes were up. She had asked me to choose the product I preferred and my most favourite L’OCCITANE product has to be the Shea Butter and a deep tissue massage with that makes you feel supple and fresh all at the same time! Though an Almond Reshaping Body Wrap (INR 3750 for 60 mins) sounded so tempting, after a deep tissue treatment it is best to spend some time in a steam room or a sauna, but sadly this spa had only steam to offer. Each treatment room has its own bath which saves you the trouble of traipsing to another area of the property. After a relaxing hot shower, I did check if all the services were available yet. The salon services weren’t but I’m sure they will be by now!

I would recommend Amaltas to all and sundry for the simple fact that they use L’OCCITANE products, have well-trained staff and are conveniently located at Gurgaon’s Golf Course road. Step out, take the elevator down to Naya, the all day dining at Anya, and indulge in a round of coffee and cake. After a treatment like that, your body is going to want the nourishment on the inside as well!
